expertise to the city and county, which is why i will be voting against it. thank you. supervisor weiner: i will be supporting the nomination. i agree with supervisor campos that a reasonable argument can be made either way in terms of the qualifications, and fundamentally, it is a judgment for this board and for the mayor, and i think it is quite reasonable to include that he does meet the qualifications. however, i come out differently on the merits than supervisor campos. the historic preservation commission -- and i supported the creation of the commission -- it has become an increasingly powerful and important commission, reaching into a lot of different areas of policy in this city. not just housing, but now recently reaching into parks and potentially libraries and other areas. it is important to have a diversity of backgrounds and viewpoints on the committee, and -- on the commission, and if we are going to have a commission made up exclusively of advocates for historic preservation, only advocates, that is a problem. i will be speaking to that in more detail later in the meeting du

it wisely. we will try to help you do that. >> mark grueberg followed by herbert weiner. >> good afternoon, president and directors. -- president nolan and directors. i want to applaud the initiative to enhance the safety of cabdrivers, and also for a form of integrated dispatch. i think advances in technology have made it simpler and simpler to accomplish for a really negligible cost. one of the arguments against this, i think, is not pertinent. also, he mentioned the new law regarding visual and audio data that is collected in taxes through cameras that peer out and appear in and record sound. i think what is needed is some official guidelines for the use of this equipment. i do not know what the effects of the new law will be on the equipment. i think there is some uncertainty there. i do know that we need some guidelines. these cameras are important for protection of drivers, protection of passengers. but there also are privacy rights that need to be considered. i hope that appropriate guidelines will be elaborated. i must say that at almost a quarter to two i really object to the fact

weiner's office to put together a meeting for the valencia street merchants as well, and would like to thank supervisor carmen chiu for her leadership on this. she has been helpful with pulling together city departments, the department of building inspection, and the mayor's department on this ability to work on a joint program together. -- on disability to work on a joint program together. mobile food -- dpw will hold their hearing at 6 in the morning to present to the public the guidelines, the permitting process, and to get feedback. if there is not a lot of changes or recommendations for them to consider, they are targeting a february 1 implementation date for the new permitting process. last week, i was a part of the meeting to work with some of the guidelines with dpw, including with food. we also had kevin wesley from the golden gate restaurant association. and we had matt cohen from off the grid. we had the representation of pushcarts, trucks, and restaurants to create some guidelines around food for the hearing officers to be able to use. it was a very constructive meeting.

, so do not even bother with it. >> herbert weiner is the last person to turn in speaker card. >> i'm really concerned about the jacking up of the parking rates for the meters. normally, what i do is i take public transportation and use my car very sparingly. normally, it is for traveling out of town. when you start charging $6 for parking meters, you are really shaking down motorists, and they are not represented at this meeting at all. i really feel that this is very unfair to drivers. i also feel that this board is trying to get money wherever they can find it. basically, what we have is a pattern here. this board tries to extort as much money as possible and also give less service. there has been a dramatic reduction in service since mr. ford came on board. there has also been a raising of parking fees. this resembles basically pg&e in a public body, and we have to remember, pg&e stands for predatory, greedy, and evil, so i'm categorically against the raising of these parking fees. i think lower income people will find it very inconvenient, and it is forcing people onto a public
